Facebook IPO: Goldmine or Money Pit?

The hype and build up have been intense, setting sky-high expectations. Late today, the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Facebook could be the largest in history, depending on where the stock price is set. The likely price is $34-$38, which would raise $16 billion, making it the third largest. Yet not everyone agrees that Facebook is the best investment since Apple. Some question whether this is an inflated value, especially considering General Motors’ recent statement that Facebook ads (its primary revenew source) are not returning an adequate ROI. There are even serious analysts who speculate about Facebook’s longterm position as the dominate social media site, citing the meteoric rise and fall of Myspace. Others disagree and offer examples of how many advertisers have been very successful. Time will tell. Read more.

BlackBerry Touts OS and Government Sales

Finally, some good news from BlackBerry. In a recent study by Trend Micro that compared four mobile operating systems, BlackBerry 7 was found to be the best OS to meet the demands of enterprise customers. In addition, RIM reports that BlackBerry sales to the U.S. Government are on the rise. In the midst of disappointing financials, fleeing customers and industry criticism, this is welcome news for RIM’s management team and stockholders. Will they be able to build on these successes?

All 4G Wireless Coverage is Not the Same

It seems that all the major carriers claim to have the best 4G coverage. But this can be deceiving because some of the carriers take license with their definitions of 4G coverage. 4G is NOT necessarily the same as 4G LTE. The difference can be huge. All of Verizon Wireless’s 4G service is 4G LTE. Verizon has updated its coverage map to show where 4G service is available for Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.
